Survey Finds Women Happier than Men

Is there a social difference between men and women? Some tend to argue that women talk more and share more with their friends while men are drawn to engaging in sports or other competitive activities where talking is not as necessary.

The differences between men and women have been examined for years and while the verdict on many elements is still out, one survey argues it has been able to determine if one gender is more content than the other.

The Age recently posted an article that examined this topic. According to the Mental Health Association NSW online survey of 309 people, women are indeed happier and more social than men. At the same time, the survey also found that young people are more likely to be distressed.

The survey highlighted that those who appeared to be happier and more content with their lives made it a priority to spend time with friends or belong to a club. Those who were unsure if they enjoyed socializing – or those known as fence sitters – tended to be more prone to mental illness.

Those who were reportedly more distressed were individuals experiencing a disadvantage such as financial hardship. The survey also found that 18- to 25-year olds were more unhappy than older age groups.

”The report reveals that there is a strong link between participating and feeling happy when socializing with friends or being a member of a club,” said spokeswoman Nataly Bovopoulos in The Age.

”It was also interesting to note that the majority [72 per cent] of the respondents were female, which indicates immediately that women are more likely to get involved than men.”
